Following initial trials off New England, the team camped in Key West, FL through February to continue water testing of the Mk 7 boat in its sail only and electric only versions, and validate its core design parameters. The trials were designed to refine autonomous sailing algorithms, fine tune hardware parameters, prove communication protocols and methods and test preliminary customer payloads. The tests confirm that this generation is a significant improvement over the Mk VI boat, especially in its lower capital cost and adherence to design-for-manufacturing principles. The hulls and wing sail are fabricated by a specialized boat building yard in Peabody, MA. Electrical and mechanical assembly is done by our team at our facility in Somerville, MA. Our next major test will be sending a boat on an extended voyage to demonstrate endurance and accumulate sea miles.
